The Old and the "650 years New" Town of Prague

Hana Kornecká

Hardly anyone realizes that Wenceslas Sq, where most important events took place, is a street in the New Town of Prague, founded over 650 years ago. You´ll see not only the balcony from which Václav Havel led the revolution and the National Museum, in front of which Jan Palach burnt himself, with St. Wenceslas overlooking all that. Beside the opulence of 19 and 20CC you´ll se that the New Town is really old. Passing by the Municipal House, a highlight of Art Nouvea, we´ll step to the Old Town through the Powder Tower, to admire Old Town Sq (the centre of Universe, as ane American professor said) with its Astronomical clock, and the Jewish Quarter. You may view the synagogues and the cemetery from the outside or explore their interiors including the museum exibitions - I am licenced for that as well. From the Faculty of Philosophy at the side of the Jewish Quarter, where Jan palach studied, the view of Prague Castle is best.

I had the pleasure of sharing Praque with Hana and a delightful group of 20 seniors. She was truly most information and so very considerate of the group. I would most sincerely recommend her for any private or group tour of this amazing city/
