Great Tour - 5 days, 4 nights Safari- Tanzania
I T I N E R A R Y
Day 1:TARANGIRE
- In the morning transfer to Tarangire National Park for game viewing, lunch, dinner and overnight. Tarangire Sopa lodge,
Size: 2850 sq km (1,096 sq miles).
Location: 118 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha.
The fierce sun sucks the moisture from the landscape, baking the earth a dusty red, the withered grass as brittle as straw. The Tarangire River has shriveled to a shadow of its wet season self. But it is choked with wildlife. Thirsty nomads have wandered hundreds of parched kilometers knowing that here, always, there is water.
Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem - a smorgasbord for predators – and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared Oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.
Day 2:LAKE MANYARA
- After lunch transfer to Lake Manyara national park for game viewing, take the hot lunch at Manyara, then afternoon proceed with game viewing at Manyara. Dinner and Overnight, Lake Manyara Hotel Serena Lodge
A major attraction of the Lake Manyara National Park is the tree - climbing lions. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that you will spot them. However, there are other things to see - elephants, hippos, zebras, impalas, buffalos, baboons, plains animals as well as huge variety of birdlife, both resident and migratory.
At certain times of the year, Lake Manyara is home to thousands of flamingos (attracted by the Lake itself), which form a shimmering pink zone around the lake shore. Other birds found here include ostriches, egrets, herons, pelicans and storks. Also seen are African spoonbills, various species of ibises, ducks and the rare pygmy geese. The most noticeable of the landscape within this park are the very impressive baobab trees with their huge trunks.
Day 3: SERENGETI
- After an early breakfast transfer to Serengeti via Ngorongoro Conservation area with packed lunch and game viewing en-route. Dinner and overnight, Serengeti Serena Hotel
Day 4: SERENGETI
- After breakfast proceed with game viewing in Serengeti Park, and take the hot lunch Serengeti. After lunch transfer to Ngorongoro for Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.
Serengeti: Wide-open space, in the Maasai language, is the oldest and second largest park in Tanzania. The Serengeti is renowned for its annual wildebeest migration and large predator population. From March to May, a herd of over a million wildebeests migrate for the Western corridor of the park in search of greener pastures. Serengeti’s other common animals include lions, leopards, zebras, Thompson gazelles, impala, Grant’s gazelles and buffalos. Most of the park is open grassland broken by isolated granite kopjes and patches of acacias woodlands.
Day 5: NGORONGORO
- After breakfast descends into the Crater floor for a half day crater tour, this time you will have picnic lunch inside the crater. Evening drive back to Arusha.
One of the World’s largest Calderas, 20 km wide, Ngorongoro Crater is also one of the best wildlife viewing areas where Black Rhinos can be seen in Tanzania. The crater at 2,286m above sea level is the largest unbroken Calderas in the world. Surrounded by very steep walls, rising 610 meters from the crate floor, it covers 260 sq km and is home to over 30,000 animals, almost half of them being zebra and wildebeest. Ngorongoro is listed as a World Heritage
