South African Cuisine

South African Cuisine

My passion for wine goes back to the early 1980’s when I began drinking Italian white wines - when they were cheaper than local wine! I then started assisting in reducing the vast lake of wine that I had heard was sloshing about in the Cape and have been drinking it ever since. Over the years, I have been through every wine region in the Cape and some in Tuscany, Bardolino, Austria, New Zealand Czech Republic and South America, visited many wineries, tasted almost everything that was on offer, built up my own wine cellar, have read extensively on the subject, attended formal and informal tastings, auctions, launches, festivals and promotions. I have completed the Cape Wine Academy Certificate and am currently doing the tasting education in preparation for my International Diploma. After the 2007 vintage I will have produced the 6th vintage under my own labels "Thirteen 2003", "Ca. 4121 2004" and "Ca. 4121 Viognier 2005" being some of these releases. I am not a wine snob, occasionally drink a little too much, certainly do not pretend to know everything and do not consider myself an expert. I am constantly learning about, love and enjoy all types and styles of wine, and I enjoy sharing my little bit of knowledge and our South African wines with anyone who is interested.
